There are things so evident that we don’t think about them. There are things so important that we must not forget them.
At a time of mass self-ideologism, in a perfectly polished self-made society, with an existential requirement of virtual relationships, the study of and looking for an identity acquires a special meaning.
We have gotten used to worldwide coverage, speed, global and superficial perceptions. Our personality is a constantly flowing variable that either hits or just fleetingly touches sources of perceptions. However, surface and depth are two different levels and perceptiveness needs time.
We are the surrounding world to ourselves and again we are reflected in it. We are a reflection and a reflector, self-reflector and self-reflection. The more global and superficial are our relations to the world around us, the less we are for ourselves. Personal, deep and long-term have thus become the foundation stones not only of the exhibition Pearl mussels but of the newly born White Pearl Gallery.
Six very different artistic personalities of today’s visual art scene, Jiří David, Karíma Al-Mukhtarová, Vladimír Skrepl, Michal Škapa, Jan Vytiska, Epos257, will transform by their works the new gallery space into a visualisation of an individual’s everyday and lifelong transformation. It will come this way to a conscious mutual self-identification through the creative process, to a modification, or perhaps enrichment, of the artists’ works in a mutual and conscious reflection at a specific time and in a specific space.
